What is a sales-to-delivery handoff?
A sales-to-delivery handoff transfers the agreed scope, customer commitments, constraints, and success criteria to the team responsible for delivery. Name the receiving owner and record whether the team accepts the work or needs a specific missing item before it can start.
The Sales-to-Delivery Knowledge Gap
Professional-services delivery can be exposed when the sold scope, delivery assumptions, technical constraints, or success criteria are not transferred clearly. Those gaps can create rework, scope disputes, scheduling friction, or margin pressure, so they are useful handoff evidence to inspect directly. The worked sales-to-implementation example shows how to distinguish missing scope from capacity limits and customer dependencies.
Feasibility Ownership
Identify who is responsible for validating technical or operational feasibility before delivery begins. Some organizations use a Solution Architect or Pre-Sales Engineer; others assign the responsibility elsewhere. The important control is that feasibility assumptions and exceptions are explicit in the Statement of Work or equivalent delivery record.
The Internal Kickoff
Use an internal kickoff when it helps the receiving team verify scope, constraints, dependencies, success criteria, and unresolved questions before the external client kickoff. Explicit acceptance is more useful than treating attendance alone as proof that the handoff is complete. Use the cross-functional handoff checklist to record readiness, receiving ownership, acceptance, and exceptions.
